Howl at the Moon, Book 1

Eighth graders, Ben, Jake, and Leah need cash, and mowing lawns in the winter just isn’t ideal. What they need is a way to make lots of money and quick. Jake has a brilliant idea – they’ll create a detective agency, Liarus (Liars R us) Detective Agency. Ben and Leah reluctantly agree because Jake promises the adventure of a lifetime and loads of money. Besides, no one really meets a private detective, right? They’re private for a reason.

Their first client is Old Lady Smitz, who is said to have murdered her three sons and husband. She’s missing a family heirloom, but it’s not just any old trinket. It’s the crest of Lykoi. It’s said to have magical powers, but in order to track it they’ll need to employee the help of a witchdoctor. In the midst of their search, they discover a large wolf that has the town sheriff and everyone’s parents in fits because it’s mauling small animals and roaming the streets at night. But it’s not just any ordinary wolf, it’s a werewolf, and he’s missing his crest.

The only two rules Old Lady Smitz has for the detectives are no girls allowed on the case, and to never seal a deal with the witchdoctor. Soon, the three friends find themselves trapped between a scheming witchdoctor and an angry werewolf. Who knew trying to make a buck would cause so much trouble.
