Cover Reveal: Death in the Family (Sophie Morgan #2)

Funny quick bit – when Helen and I were speaking about her cover I thought she HAD a death in the family. I had to read her note 2-3 times to see that it’s the name of the book. Too funny… or not funny at all. LOL!

Man I love this girl. She’s hard working, crazy supportive and just a fantastic person. If I ever make it big there are a few names I’ll be taking with me, and Helen is one of them. Feast your eyes on her new cover and go out and buy her books – you’re missing out if you don’t. LOVE this COVER!

Death in the Family cover
Death in the Family, Sophie Morgan Vampire Series Book 2
Helen Treharne
AVAILABLE 14TH FEBRUARY 2015
Things are on the up for Sophie Morgan.

She fended off vampires on a holiday to Antwerp, escaped them on her return in Coventry, stabbed her neighbor and is slowly rebuilding her life in her hometown of Bethel. Running the family property business may not be lucrative but she’s happy. Since returning to Wales, she has only had to kill one vampire and thanks to the linoleum on her kitchen floor, even that was an easy clean up.

Then a mixed blessing arrives in the form of Mickey Kelly, the barman she had a brief flirtation with in Antwerp. After being missing for months, he arrives on her doorstep one rainy night. His brother has been murdered and vampires are coming for her. Little do the pair know that Sophie’s estranged father is among their numbers. He’s coming for his daughter… and he’s not the only one.

Death in the Family is the long awaited sequel to Relative Strangers, with some familiar faces as well as some new ones.  Will Charles Ferrers, Sophie’s former adversary, pursue her to South Wales and if so, to what end? Who is the mysterious man following her? Will Sophie and Mickey finally consummate their relationship and where will it lead them? Or will there be more than one new man in her life?

Find out how our practical, resilient, if not slightly insecure, Sophie deals with a whole new range of challenges in the second in the ‘Sophie Morgan vampire series’. This time she has bigger problems than vampires to deal with. This time she has family visiting.

Death in the Family is the second Sophie Morgan vampire book and will be available from Amazon from 14th February – the perfect valentine gift for the vampire slayer in your life!

Relative Strangers

Relative Strangers:
A Modern Vampire Story – Sophie Morgan Vampire Series Book 1
Helen Treharne
PUBLISHED 23 AUGUST 2014

Available on Amazon!!

Meet Sophie Morgan… practical, Welsh, prone to occasional profanity, and seemingly a vampire magnet.

Sophie Morgan is 23 and has always done the right thing. She’s caused no stress for her family, worked hard through university, has taken a successful leap onto the career ladder and nurtured a reasonably healthy bank balance.  It’s no small surprise then when, on a post relationship break-up, mini-break to Antwerp, she pursues a pair of thieves who steal her friend’s handbag.  But this is only the start of her world being turned upside down.  Ripped from the streets into a dark alley she is violently attacked, barely alive when quirky Irish bar worker, Michael Kelly, stumbles across the scene.

The pair, shocked by their experience and uncertain whether they have killed her attacker in the brawl which follows, go into the night for answers.   They get more than they bargained for. Sophie quickly learns that vampires exist, her neighbors back home aren’t what they seem and new boyfriends can be found in the strangest of situations.

Relative Strangers is the first in a new vampire series with a distinctly British flavour, but which will appeal to everyone.  Reviews call it “a vampire tale with bite”, with “brilliant characters that draw you in” and a very fresh take on the genre. Read it now to find out reviewers are raving about.

Now a little about this fantastic author!

Helen Treharne Author 1

In addition to being the creator of the developing “Sophie Morgan” series, Helen is an urban poet and social commentator who can frequently be found ranting in the Twitterverse.  She knew the degree in Sociology would come in handy some day!

Helen lives with her husband, three cats, an entrenched tea addiction and an increasing collection of stringed instruments. When she’s not writing she spends her time daytime hours working in communications and volunteers for a feline welfare charity. She also spends too much time watching Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

She also can’t be trusted near stationery and has probably had more come backs than Cher.

Great Amazon Reviews for Deceived!!

I can’t help but share these. I just love hearing from my readers. It makes me want to write faster and dream bigger! Thanks you guys – you make all I do so CRAZY worth it. ❤

4.0 out of 5 stars A great start to what I'm expecting will be an epic series, January 19, 2015
What a wonderful start to what I expect will be one of those epic young adult trilogies everyone inevitably winds up raving about. And in this case, I certainly think that is deserved. Even though I have a bit of a predisposition to paranormal young adult stories that involve mythology (see: my clamoring to read everything by Rick Riordan), I think this is one that would be enjoyable even for those who are not major fans of the genre.

The characters here are endearing and engaging. There are complicated dynamics here that are evident even before everyone's true nature and role are revealed. And the reveal is well-done, leaving the reader with just as many questions as answers. The story builds to an end that is unexpected and will leave readers wanting more.

I will definitely be picking up the second book. I need to know what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly suggest it for your next download!, January 18, 2015
OMGee!!! I LOVED this book!

I love to read about mythology and this book doesn't disappoint!
I have to warn you, there is a HUGE cliffhanger! I am usually not a fan of them, but the author has really got me into the story and I am rather impatiently waiting for the next book!!!
Sam has dreams, and she is visited in her dreams by the grandsons of Zeus. They have been stuck in teenage bodies for hundreds of years and they both are interested in Sam!
Sam also learns that she will be playing an integral part in the world, like she doesn't have enough to deal with in high school!!

I loved the fast pace of the story and I really feel that this is a fantastic read!
It's truly a great read and can be read by teens and adults alike!

Liz Gavin’s second full-length novel is hard to put down just as it is hard to pinpoint its genre. She has woven an intricate web around her characters that will leave readers breathless. In the sizzling concoction, this talented new author poured heart-warming romance, heart-stopping suspense, and a dash of heart-searching paranormal. Take your pick. Regardless of the literary genre you might favor, Liz Gavin’s writing will take you to a whole different side of it.

Liz's PicAbout the Author:

When Liz Gavin was in Second Grade – just a couple of years ago, really – her teacher told her mother the little girl should start a diary because she needed an outlet for her active and vivid imagination. She was a talkative child who would disrupt the class by engaging her colleagues in endless conversations. She loved telling them the stories her grandfather used to tell her.

Apparently, the teacher wasn’t a big fan of those stories, and Liz’s mother bought her a diary. She happily wrote on it for a couple of months. Unable to see the appeal of writing for her own enjoyment only, she gave up on it. She missed the audience her friends provided her in class. She went back to disturbing her dear teacher’s class.

Since then, she has become a hungry reader. She will read anything and everything she can get her hands on – from the classics to erotica. That’s how she has become a writer of erotica and romance, as well.

As a young adult, she participated in a student exchange program and lived in New Orleans for six months. She fell in love with the city and its wonderful inhabitants. NOLA will always hold a special spot in Liz Gavin’s heart. Nowadays, living in Brazil, Liz’s creativity has improved many times because it’s such a vibrant, gorgeous and sexy country.

Welcome to her world of hot Alpha males and naughty, independent women. Add a touch of the paranormal in the presence of some wicked souls and you’ll get the picture.

MARKETING INDIE BOOKS (Part 5 of 5)

Wow, you made it! Thank you for your visit. Remember to leave your thoughts below.

Yesterday I reminisced about my childhood reading habits. No surprise I’m such a nerd nowadays, huh? Oh, you didn’t read the post, you say? That’s fine, there’s no need to blush, sweetie. Go to 4willspublishing, find the Events page, and click on yesterday’s blog stop link. It’s as simple as that. We’ll be here when you return.

Well, my dearest readers, I saved the best for last – SPREADING THE WORD.

You busted your behind polishing your text to perfection. You created an attractive cover. You mastered the eBook formatting with honors. You even created a printed version for your masterpiece. And much like the old saying, you believed once your book was ready, the readers would come. In your wildest dreams, they would flock in thousands to buy it.

Days and weeks passed and the readers didn’t come in the quantities or with the frequency you had imagined. Every time you logged into your account to check on sales, you dreaded to see the rude arrow pointing down as your title plunged the rankings. Your hopes began to falter and you doubted yourself.

Do you remember my first post on Marketing Indie Books? I said most authors don’t want to bother with promoting their books. They’d rather concentrate on the creative process. That’s harder to accomplish for indie authors and I wrote extensively about the reasons on that post. I won’t repeat myself.

After you published your first book, (or second or tenth), you found out you needed to tell your readers about it because that nasty arrow on your sales dashboard kept disappearing at the bottom of the compute screen. What better way to do that than to have reviews posted where readers go to choose their next books?

There are many websites and Facebook pages where you can find people who review books. All kinds of people reviewing all kinds of books. All you have to do is send them a copy and they’ll read it and post their opinion. Right? Are you sure? Really? When are they going to do that? Where are they going to post the review? Your book is on sale only at one online store but the reviewer doesn’t have an account there. They have an account on the same store – Yay!! – but later you discover it’s on another marketplace – one that doesn’t help with your book’s ranking. Not to mention the people who get your book and never bother to post a review. I prefer to think they didn’t like my book because the alternative reason is preposterous.

I wasted a .lot of time searching for reviewers and contacting them before I got to a rare oasis in this dry internet landscape: Rave Reviews Book Club. If you’re a member, you know what I’m talking about. If you’re not, go there NOW and subscribe. You don’t know what you’re missing. Rave Review Book Club is the only place I found which offers such an impressive number of high-quality authors committed to supporting one another. This kind of network is priceless. Not to mention that a review written by an author looks so much better than a three-word comment from a regular customer from the online store. It makes your book look better, even when the rating is four stars, as opposed to a five-star comment stating your book is “a good read.”

Now, if you’re an author who don’t know, or don’t want to learn, how to create an attractive cover; to master the eBook formatting; or to create a printed version of your masterpiece. If you want to concentrate your best efforts and your precious time on writing your next novel, I recommend you find professionals who will take care of those things for you. They can do it all, except the writing bit, or do the parts you don’t like or don’t have time to do.

I searched for such professionals for a while. Much as it happened when I looked for reviewers, I found out there were all kinds of people offering all kinds of services within the publishing industry. They offered complete packages or compartmentalized ones. There were very expensive services as well as extremely cheap ones. In most cases, a superficial analysis of their clients’ rankings on major online stores was enough to make me run for the hills. In other ones, just logging into their websites offered me evidence that the quality of their services was not what I wanted for my book. I had worked so hard on it. I wanted only the best for it.

That was when I chose the people I trusted the most. People who respect books as much as I do. People who cherish authors, who make a point of supporting them. People who strive to deliver quality products because they are as much of a perfectionist as I am – the 4Willspublishing team. Thank you for your hard work and congratulations on your many successful stories. You deserve all the praises you can get! YOU ROCK!

Thank you once again for stopping by today. Come back tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll have fun with us.

Synopsis:

This is the complete Steampunk Fantasy novel – all four parts of the serial in one volume! Also includes bonus features not found in the episodes ~

Human life has value.
The poor living in the gutter are as valuable as the rich living in a manor.
The scoundrel is no less valuable than the saint.
Because of this, every life a reaper takes must be redeemed.

Raven has lived by this first tenet since she was trained by her father to become a reaper. But since his death, she’s been spending years redeeming the lives she’s taken. By her count, she’s even and it’s time for that life to end. If she settles down and becomes a wife, she might just feel human again. But on the way to the life she thinks she wants, the baron of New Haven asks her to complete a task which she cannot ignore… Just when Raven decides to give up on her life as an assassin, she’s pulled right back in.

Raven PaulineAbout the Author:

In simple language, Pauline Creeden creates worlds that are both familiar and strange, often pulling the veil between dimensions. She becomes the main character in each of her stories, and because she has ADD, she will get bored if she pretends to be one person for too long. Pauline is a horse trainer from Virginia, but writing is her therapy.

Armored Hearts, her joint effort with author Melissa Turner Lee, has been awarded the Crowned Heart for Excellence by InDtale Magazine. It is also the 2013 Book Junkie’s Choice Winner in Historical Fiction. Her debut novel, Sanctuary, won 1st Place Christian YA Title 2013 Dante Rosetti Award and 2014 Reader’s Choice Gold Award for Best YA Horror Novel.

My Review:

Five Stars.. easily. What a great read. I’m a sucker for anything fantasy, but it’s even more drawing if there are assassin’s involved. Creeden did a great job of grabbing my attention from the get go, providing a robust and well-rounded main character in Raven and pulling me into a world that didn’t let go until I’d finished the book.

The steampunk setting and nuances is a difficult one and not one that most author’s would attack, but Creeden does it with elegance and skill. I loved the detail and surrealism of a world I could never experience except in the pages of a well-written book.

Bravo for a job extremely well done. I’d recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a fantastic adventure, a depth of characterization and a beautifully painted landscape for the plot to flow through. Loved it.

E-mail I got on Deceived

I got a great e-mail today from one of my contest winners. Just wanted to share with you guys because this is exactly the reason I do what I do with words… to bring an experience for the reader. 🙂

As for Deceived, I’m loving every passing passage of it. At this point, I don’t what’s going to happen to Samantha. The constant rivalry between Marcus and Nicolas makes me laugh. Since reading this so far, I’m really starting to question Dreams and wondering to myself, “Is it really possible for two people to have the same dream?” I love your writing style, and I love Greek mythology altogether! It was certainly a nice surprise, I would have never suspected this, but you blended it nicely with the story-line. An intense piece of literature, with every chapter, tensions build and so do the relationships. Back to your writing style, with the past books I’ve read, your take on scenes of violence are described in the same manner as author Rick Riordan. Which is perfect, because that means they are that much more realistic! ;D I enjoy coming across different authors spontaneously, because you never know what to expect, and are rewarded with an interesting vast array of plots, various scenes of imagery and a hook that really grabs ya! So far, I can safely say, Deceived should be Received by all readers!

Thank-you once more for sharing your story with me. May you have a wonderful day! ^_^
Awesome!

Getting in the mood…

Well, that has a few connotations, doesn’t it? I’m getting in the mood to write!!

Sometimes it takes a bit of inner pressure to sit down and commit yourself to write 85,000 words over a two week period, but much like all things that take consorted effort, a new book brings crazy amounts of joy and a huge sense of accomplishment once done.

So what’s on my plate the next two weeks in terms of my writing?

1. Decent, Soul Keeper III. The final book in my debut trilogy will be my main focus. I’m going to sit down and bang it out over the next few weeks. It’s been moved to a late February 2015 release namely because I’m working with my book manager at BookTrope to figure out timing now that the trilogy has been picked up by them. I’m super stoked at where this book will take us and the adventures we’ll get to go on together with Sam, Nick & Marcus.

2. I’m wrapping up round 1 of edits tonight on Howl at the Moon, my first Middle Grade novel in my Liarus Detective Series. The first one was SUCH a blast to write that I have another scheduled to come out later this year called “Good to the Last Drop.”

3. Working on edits (on chp 6 of 32) for a series I’m writing under Kate Thomas (my New Adult/Romance) penname. It’s co-authored with a good friend of mine, so we’re working back and forth on edits and hope to get it to my editor for a real review later this month. It will be a trilogy with a fun college setting. Deep rich characters are quickly emerging.

4. Lastly, I’ll be going through my first edit on “The Core: Equilibrium I,” a series about Ellie and her adventures in better understanding the supernatural world she’s being dragged into. It started as a romance and then moved into a supernatural series quickly as I wrote her story.

Follow me on Twitter and FB under my Kate Thomas accounts to keep up on those projects!

Hope your new years has started off wonderfully! Mine’s going to be crazy and yet fantastical!
