Book Review & Promo: Transformed

Transformed by E.V. Fairfall
Publication date: January 1st 2014
Genres: Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult

Thea, all-mighty Mother Earth, only had one rule to follow above all else, one promise to keep to her brother: never take a human form. She would’ve kept that promise if it weren’t for Brice. He’s handsome and confident, but above all he’s merciless.

He’s also a hunter who has tormented Thea for years. She believes if she could teach Brice compassion, she might finally be able to save her creations and herself from his savage ways. Then she meets Chamber: another hunter.

She soon finds herself fascinated by−and torn between−the two boys: Brice and Chamber. Lost within a torrent of human emotions, Thea starts to lose who she is as she falls in love with the one thing that she’s always hated: a hunter… a human.

About E.V.
I love to write just as much as I love to read. I try to read a book per week, which doesn’t always work out, but it’s the thought that counts. Aside from all that I am a huge animal person.

Transformed is my first novel, but it isn’t my first publication; I’ve had several short stories published over the last two years. My main goal as a writer is to explore humanity and to give people something fun to read.

My Review:
(4 out of 5 stars)

First of all, let me just say that I LOVE the cover of this book. It’s whimsical and beautiful, drawing at the part of me that hopes for a great story to sink into. The story centers around Thea, who happens to be “Mother Earth”, and her desperate need to preserve life on earth. She has the wicked gift of being able to shift into almost anything and one of the best parts of the book is watching her do so in a manner that is smooth and well written. The love story that runs through the pages of the book is fun and endearing, your heart quickly going out to the characters as they traverse this crazy thing called love. Having her brother as what some might call “almighty God” was a little odd, but I’m thinking if mother nature had a brother, God would be him.

Overall it was a great story with more than one theme running through the pages. I enjoyed it very much and LOVED the idea behind E.V.’s creation, having seen nothing like it. I would recommend it to anyone who loves supernatural/fantasy fiction, especially to the YA crowd. Great read!

Please note that E.V. is running a special on the book! Get out there and purchase it!

Howl at the Moon (MG)

I’m working hard on my debut Middle Grade Novel, Howl at the Moon. I’m so crazy stoked about it because the story was just incredibly fun to write. My editor just returned the first draft with very few edits and I have commissioned an artist to draw the cover, so I’m well on my way to getting it out the door and sharing it with my family, friends and fans.

I’ll be posting updates here of course, but the release could be as early as Christmas or as late as end of January. Either way – ALMOST THERE!!!!!

Short Excerpt:

Darkness pressed in tightly as the wind of early winter swept up and tossed my hair around my head. My eyes were wide with terror as silky white mist moved in front of me. My  breath was trapped in my lungs, screaming for release. The cemetery yawned with delight as the air shifted just so, and the figure of a young woman materialized, her empty eyes moving among those gathered to conjure her from far below the earth. A snort echoed in the air around me as the witch doctor beckoned me to engage the spirit.

“Speak, boy. She’s now part of your future,” his gravelly voice barked out in my direction.

The burning on my forearm began again and I gasped, looking down, still holding the candle I’d been given in the other hand. The spirit moved closer to hover above me, her lovely pale lip lifted in a devious smirk.

“Yes, Ben, tell me of the—”

“Benjamin Warren!” Mrs. Lawson shouted. “Are you even awake?”

I snapped my head up as I quickly wiped the drool from my face, my sleeve seemingly already wet. “Uh, yeah. Just closed my eyes so I could think better.”

Good Ol’ Fashion Update…

Hi everyone.

Thought it might be time for a good old fashion update of sorts, just to let you guys know where I was in my process and kind of give you a peek into the wild work of indie writing while maintaining a full-time job and keeping the kids from eating one another. Hey! They do that… watch animal planet. 🙂

Having just released Destroyed, Soul Keeper II on November 15th, I’m breathing a collective sigh of relief with my editor Nicole to have that one out the door. I’ve yet to start on Descent, Soul Keeper III, but it is set to come out January 2015, so obviously I need to get it into gear.

One might ask how long it the process takes from start to finish. I’m sure it’s different for everyone, but for me it takes about 2-3 weeks to write the book and the editing process takes about 4-6 weeks. The cover design work usually takes about 2-3 weeks to get it just perfect and the formatting and uploading is done over a few days. All in all – about 5-6 weeks at most and that is pushing it a little, but I work best under pressure.

Where are we now?

My cover designer is working hard on the crimson cover for Descent and it’s looking GREAT! The cover release is being hosted by Xpresso Book Tours on December 15th, so look for that to come out. Super stoked about this last cover as the first two were just beyond awesome in my humble opinion.

My editor is actually almost done working through our first edit of my middle grade book, Howl at the Moon (A Liarus Detective Series Book), which will hopefully be out next year in February. My friend Mark Shaw, #indiebooksbeseen is hooking me up with a designer for this new cover because I need something more suited for the middle grade reader. I’m going to spend the next few weeks trying to get that manuscript in final format and start promoting it in the right places.

I’m still knee deep in my Virtual Book Tour with GoddessFish, which ends Nov. 28th and am working on a few promo’s for giveaways for Christmas, which you will see advertised on here soon! I have a different designer working on a holiday promo ad for me and am stoked to see what (CK) comes up with.

I was just voted into the governing board of Rave Reviews Book Club (RRBC) and have been busy helping to support the club and its membership as well! And I’m ALMOST over the flu! 🙂

As for my next projects for YA novels, I think I’ll be working on 3-4 stand alone books (we’ll see if we end up with 1 or more) over 2015 and I’m going to dip a little into New Adult with a co-writing friend of mine under a pen name I think. Loads and loads of ideas and lots of projects on my plate, but I’m stoked.

That’s all for now, but be looking for that awesome cover reveal in mid-December and go grab you a copy of Deceived ($0.99) and Destroyed ($2.99) on Amazon today!

Thanks for the support! xoxo

Hunters – Taken from Chapter One – The Possession (Abigail)

“Where is she?” I asked as I laid out my roll of equipment on a hall table; it was the only piece of furniture in the hall so it had to do.

Taking a cross out of my pack, I poured holy water over it, splashing some on the hall table and the carpet. A small price to pay for us saving his daughter’s soul. Rolling the rest back up, I placed it back into my jacket and tucked the bible under my arm.

“This way,” the man said looking ready to bolt but thought…
